They do require your phone number, but not much more. If you're also looking for alternatives, Whatsapp and Viber are obvious, popular choices. For this reason, many people are switching to other, less demanding messaging apps. Facebook doesn't allow you to sign up for its messaging app without a Facebook account, which used to be the case. There's, however, a significant issue of Facebook Messenger and its Lite version alike. It has no apparent bugs of its own, only the ones common to Messenger in general. While Lite isn't necessary for most modern smartphone users, it's great for some. Unlike standard Messenger, it runs on 2G networks, which means it will stay efficient in low-connection areas. If you have a slow or unstable internet connection, Lite is also of great help. For this reason, Lite reduces spending on your battery life and data plan. The messaging feature is the same, but it lacks Location, Games, Plans, GIFs, and other bells and whistles. Recently, the developers also introduced a Messenger Lite dark mode which you may pick here. Lite's Profile tab enables you only to synchronize your contacts, switch accounts, view message requests, and configure your notifications. You won't get a code, username, Story setting, or Secret conversation. There's no clutter of invitations, contact requests, phone numbers, and so much more you'd otherwise see.įinally, the Profile tab is also slimmed-down. In the Contacts tab, you can access people using Messenger as well as a search tab to find anyone you’re looking for. There aren't currently active and recent search sections, only a list of your latest conversations. Your inbox located in the Home tab is more straightforward in Lite. In some ways, Lite is better for users seeking to take advantage only of the communication features of the app. Messenger LiteĪlthough Lite includes the essential features of its parent software, there are specific differences in their functions. Everything from texting to blocking is readily available. Once you start a conversation, you'll notice that the same buttons are in the same places as they would be in the standard version. Your options are Home, Contacts, and Account. The main interface difference is the fact that with Lite, you'll only see three primary tabs that stand for the core features of this software. All you need to do is click on the Free Download download button and get the Messenger Lite APK for free.Īt first glance, Lite is no different than the official Messenger app. Messenger Lite app download is as simple as getting the standard version on your phone. As of March 2018, it even features video chatting and voice calls.Īvoiding the extras such as stories, games, and extensions, this software makes for a more straightforward, less distracting messaging app. It's lagging behind its full version counterpart while still covering all the best-known functions of the original app. With Lite, you may run the app with much less storage space, expend less data, and you don't even need as strong a signal.Īs such, this application provides all the essential tools of Messenger - send and receive messages, links, photographs, and stickers.

the food- the restaurant is located in the hotels basement so it is dark and gloomy with hideous decor. the lifts were such a joke, would go to the wrong floor than the one you requested and you can’t have more than 3 people in at a time because it says it’s too heavy. the second day of our stay we were greeted to a pile of sick all the way down the wall of the stairs which wasn’t cleaned up till later on in the day. when sitting on our balcony listening to music (not even loud) we were told to shut up and then got spat on by rowdy german lads from the balcony above. although we can’t fault the hotel for this next bit but the place was full of rude germans. my friends bed had some kind of body fluid on the sheets as well as pen marks. we also had to request new bedding as the bed was clearly not changed from the last visit. after wiping it down she squeezed the cloth out which resulted in black water from the dirt that cams off the bath. not convinced we still persisted that she cleaned it. when we requested for it to be cleaned we were told by the cleaner that is wasn’t dirty only old. not only could you barely fit a small child in it, it was filthy. we then went into the bathroom and saw the state of the bath tub. if you like hotels with rubbish food and rude and rowdy germans swarming the place then this hotel is for you! the rooms- when we arrived the room seemed to be clean and airy. we understand you get what you pay for but i wouldn’t pay £10 to stay here again, let alone the £330 we spent on this holiday each. Our time at this hotel was constantly blowing hot and cold. All in all, our stay at Cassandra was good but the hotel rooms would definitley benefit from an upgrade and refurbishment and the food could benefit from adding more choices.… A small bar offering alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages is also by the pool. The pool area is clean, the pool is only small and only has about 15 sun beds available. However, drinks were included with evening meal on half board basis which was a nice surprise. The breakfast was the same daily and the evening meals were similar only changing the meat/fish but not a lot of range. The food at the hotel was plain and minimal choice. However, since Arenal is a German equivalent to Magaluf resort for the Brits. However other guests in the hotel were rowdy and noisy during the night. We never heard the lifts as mentioned in previous reviews. After a second complaint, this still didn’t happen. We complained on our first night that our balcony had no chairs, we were told this would be sorted. The room size was decent and clean, so was the bathroom. Emilio on reception is lovely and polite. The entrance to the hotel and reception is very modern, as is the bar area. I wouldn’t agree that the hotel is 3*, maybe 2*. This review is Definitley not a complaint but this hotel is a budget hotel so if you have booked a holiday, don’t go with high expectations. I don’t think I would like to stay here again though. We only used it as a base to quickly change, refresh and sleep. Overall ok experience- you get what you pay for. On the other hand the air con in the room was great! Be prepared to pay 15 € deposit for the remote. When it worked it only allowed 3 people in which was really annoying. Our room was on the 6th floor and the lift was frequently out of order. The staff was friendly but did not speak much English- which is fair…I guess I need to learn more Spanish! The lift was a nightmare. We only paid for breakfast which was definitely aimed at German guests. Food was ok if you are not a fussy eater. It was cleanish, fresh towels and sheets everyday but the place is very dated and definitely needs some TLC. It is cheap and cheerful- if you are looking for a luxury this is not a place for you. The hotel has 3 stars on its door but to be honest it is more of a budget hostel than a 3-star hotel.
Suburban leaders fielding complaints about standing water and basement backups attempted to pin the blame on district officials for not opening the gate and locks earlier. First they opened a sluice gate separating the North Shore Channel from Lake Michigan in Wilmette, and then they opened locks near Navy Pier, relieving pressure on the system by allowing more than 1.1 billion gallons of murky, bacteria-laden waste to flow into the region's chief source of drinking water. Sewage overflows are an indicator that basements are flooding, effectively turning scores of homes into mini stormwater reservoirs.īy 2:27 p.m., local sewers and the Deep Tunnel were so saturated that district officials turned to their outlets of last resort. "That's a lot of water to contend with in a very short period of time." "When you have a slow-moving storm that's dumping a large amount of rainfall, it doesn't take much to cause problems," said Zachary Yack, a National Weather Service meteorologist who noted that up to 8 inches of rain fell in the western suburbs during the day. Waste and runoff would end up pouring out of 19 other overflow pipes across the county, from Evanston to Westchester, many for hours at a time. Two hours later, the same thing happened at a pump station in north suburban Wilmette and another, much larger facility off Lawrence Avenue in Chicago, where fetid gunk flowed into the North Branch of the Chicago River for nearly a day. The Deep Tunnel's massive sewers, capable of holding 2.3 billion gallons, were almost empty, according to Metropolitan Water Reclamation District records.Īt the end of tunnels hundreds of feet below the Chicago River, Des Plaines River and North Shore Channel, the McCook Reservoir-more than 20 times larger than Soldier Field-was just 17% full of raw sewage and runoff being stored until it could be safely treated.īut the first sign of trouble came before 8:30 a.m., when runoff mixed with human and industrial waste began pouring into the Des Plaines from an overflow pipe at 40th Street in southwest suburban Lyons, district records show. Granted that about a third of that time has been spent on just training my digimon back up to where he was before he died. Im at over 30 hours of playtime and I still have one more area to explore and a lot of the colusseum to finish. It is nice to see a game that pays so much attention to its environments.Įven though they look great, each area is small physically, and you can go from the city to just about any point on the island within 10-15 minutes. An underwater city where you walk on the water and see buildings beneath it, a swamp with plants and bones, an ice area, and several others. There is the Railway Field that has random tracks and train cars on it. Each area of File Island is highly varied and not used twice. It is bright, colorful, and has some of the best 3D models Ive seen on the PSP. Graphics 9- Visually the game is quite appealing. The only caveat to this is that you cant leave the colluseum without switching back, but at least you can continue your PVP battles with a saved partner even if your current one just died which is nice. There are colusseum battles too, and an interesting feature of this is that you can save your current partner into the 'Digi Storage' computer, switch to him, and test your might against all the opponents without having time advance. There are some though that open new shops, and others that take the place (sometimes) of an existing shop digimon and the end result is the shop has more inventory, the gym has better training, etc. Im also glad that there is more of a grace timer between when a digimon has to go and when he will have an accident.Ī point I notice is that most of the digimon you recruit dont actually do anything other than just show up at given times in given places and say something to you. These were never an issue for me as the hospital in the city is open from the start. Care mistakes still exist: feeding, going potty, getting sick or injured, and sleeping. Luckily it isnt hard to get all the way up to mega form and raising the digimon's level actually makes them live longer. So that you have to re-train your partner back up to the highest levels until you are strong enough to resume the story, especially at the end. Like the first game this one has monster raising elements, and to go along with that there is the thrill of getting the evolution you want, but also the occasional frustration of having your partner die after so many days. As if you try to go out of order there will either be digimon blocking the way or story events wont trigger. Unlike the first game you more or less progress in the story by visiting the various areas in sequence. Following this convention, when more than three levels of nesting are needed, often a cycle of parentheses, square brackets, and curly brackets will continue. This is not commonly used in formal writing (though sometimes other brackets will be used for one or more inner set of parentheses [in other words, secondary Ī related convention is that when parentheses have two levels of nesting, curly brackets (braces) are the outermost pair. Parentheses may be nested (generally with one set (such as this) inside another set). Examples of this usage can be seen in editions of Fowler's. Parentheses have historically been used where the dash is currently used in alternatives, such as "parenthesis)(parentheses". Examples include the southern American author William Faulkner (see Absalom, Absalom! and the Quentin section of The Sound and the Fury) as well as poet E. Parenthetical phrases have been used extensively in informal writing and stream of consciousness literature. "(s)he agreed with his/her physician" (the slash in the second instance, as one alternative is replacing the other, not adding to it). It can also be used for gender neutral language, especially in languages with grammatical gender, e.g. They can also indicate shorthand for " either singular or plural" for nouns, e.g. Parentheses may be used in formal writing to add supplementary information, such as "Senator John McCain ( R - Arizona) spoke at length". A dash before and after the material is also sometimes used. Ī comma before or after the material can also be used, though if the sentence contains commas for other purposes, visual confusion may result. Parentheses contain adjunctive material that serves to clarify (in the manner of a gloss) or is aside from the main point. ( and ) are called parentheses / p ə ˈ r ɛ n θ ɪ s iː z/ (singular parenthesis / p ə ˈ r ɛ n θ ɪ s ɪ s/) in American English, and "brackets" in the UK, India, Ireland, Canada, the West Indies, New Zealand, South Africa and Australia they are also known as "round brackets", "parens" / p ə ˈ r ɛ n z/, "circle brackets", or "smooth brackets". For the keyboard symbols, see List of emoticons. Parentheses or (round) brackets įor technical reasons, ":)" redirects here. However, in other languages like German, if brackets enclose text in italics, they are usually also set in italics. In English, typographers mostly prefer not to set brackets in italics, even when the enclosed text is italic. In 1961, ASCII contained parenthesis, square, and curly brackets, and also less-than and greater-than signs that could be used as angle brackets. Square brackets appeared with some teleprinters.īraces (curly brackets) first became part of a character set with the 8-bit code of the IBM 7030 Stretch. Most typewriters only had the left and right parentheses. Desiderius Erasmus Roterodamus coined the term lunula to refer to the round brackets or parentheses ( ) recalling the shape of the crescent moon ( Latin: luna). Various forms of brackets are used in mathematics, with specific mathematical meanings, often for denoting specific mathematical functions and subformulas.Īngle brackets or chevrons ⟨ ⟩ were the earliest type of bracket to appear in written English. There are also various less common symbols considered brackets. In British usage they are known as round brackets (or simply brackets), square brackets, curly brackets, and angle brackets in American usage they are respectively known as parentheses, brackets, braces, and chevrons. There are four primary types of brackets. Typically deployed in symmetric pairs, an individual bracket may be identified as a 'left' or 'right' bracket or, alternatively, an "opening bracket" or "closing bracket", respectively, depending on the directionality of the context. A bracket, as used in British English, is either of two tall fore- or back-facing punctuation marks commonly used to isolate a segment of text or data from its surroundings. Some critics say Bones produces elitist leaders who are myopic on America's social and economic challenges. But when Tim Russert asked Bush about Skull and Bones in February on "Meet the Press," the president said: "It's so secret we can't talk about it." When Russert asked Kerry last August what it meant that both he and Bush are Bonesmen, the Massachusetts senator replied: "Not much because it's a secret."īut the fact that both presidential candidates are Bonesmen raises a different question: How has Skull and Bones imprinted them? Neither man responded to repeated requests for interviews for this article. Neither talks publicly about Skull and Bones - except to say he can't talk about it. Both would rather advocate raising taxes. What are the odds?" says Alexandra Robbins, author of the 2002 book "Secrets of the Tomb: Skull and Bones, the Ivy League, and the Hidden Paths of Power."ĭon't bother asking Bush and Kerry the odds. "What is so staggering about two Bonesmen running against each other for president is that it's a tiny club with 15 members a year and only 600-some living at any time. It's a coincidence of historic political proportions. Never before have two Bonesmen run against each other for the presidency. What remains shrouded in mystery is their membership in Skull and Bones, an elite, covert club for which involvement continues long past the last refrain of "Pomp and Circumstance" on graduation day. It's no secret either that they both come from privileged preppy backgrounds. It's no secret that Bush and Kerry are both Yalies. Looking at the number of powerful people who come out of Yale, Skull and Bones is probably everything it's made out to be." "From what I hear," says the New Haven native, whose grandfather opened the popular eatery 54 years ago, "it's the most powerful secret society at Yale. Rick Beckwith flips sausages and eggs on the grill at the Yankee Doodle diner, a Yale institution three blocks away. But because Skull and Bones doesn't tell you anything, people suspect it." "They're supposed to have Geronimo's bones in there, but they could be anyone's bones," he says. New Haven cabby Gerald Walthall grins knowingly. "I think it's more of an after-hours club." "I never see anyone around the Tomb," she says. "Once in a while there is a sort of furtive person slinking into this building."īulldozing a stump in front of the Tomb's towering padlocked front doors, grounds worker Dawn Landino says that after 19 years on the job she knows "nothing" about the secret society. John Kerry, and is imagined by some to be the most potent in the nation's history. For 138 years it has housed Skull and Bones - a secret society that links President Bush and Sen. People passing through on High Street barely notice the cryptlike Greco-Egyptian building called the Tomb. Or we're simply not in the mood for anything complicated or difficult.īut, just like sports, drawing is a hobby that needs regular practice to maintain your current level of skill and improve. Sometimes we come home from work late and tired. Waiting for the kettle to boil or the ad break during your favourite TV show are excellent situations in which you can take out that sketchbook and get your 15-minutes of exercise done for the day.Įven with the best intentions we don't always have the time or energy for an elaborate drawing session. You can even split these exercises up and do two minutes here and there. You wouldn’t believe how many ellipses you come across during your day, or how long it can take to actually master that shape. This includes common strokes, like hatching or scribbling, and certain shapes you are likely to need regularly in your sketches. Your hobby should bring you at least 70% of pure joy. I like to think of it in 70/30 terms (yes, much like the 70/30 composition rule, if that’ll help you remember). But anything worth having (or learning, in this case) requires you to put in a little bit of effort in order to gain the skills required to improve at it. It’s a common misconception that you should enjoy your hobby at all times. You can find a free one-page summary of this article to print out at home on my Buy Me a Coffee page. You’ll have more control over your hands, your eyes and your drawing tools and that’ll help you a lot in your more elaborate drawing sessions. If you practice these exercises every day, you’ll notice that you’ll get faster, more accurate and most importantly, more secure in your approaches. Or it can be the only practice you get for a while, if you don’t have time for anything more elaborate. This list can be an additional exercise to your usual sketching habit, perhaps used as a warm-up. And it’ll keep you in shape when you’re just too busy for more. In fact, a mere 15 minutes of targeted practice a day can help you advance your technique over time and raise your confidence. Improving your drawing skills doesn't require hours and hours of filling sketchbook pages. |
